RDP from browser via RD Gateway

$

Dear all,

  1. Initial data:
RD Gateway deployment (let assume that it is single instance, win2019server). Exposed to Internet
  2. Windows workstations with allowed remote connections option enabled

Currently access to workstations can be obtained via RD Gateway

Target goal:

Get users possibility to connect to their workstations from browser interface.

Preliminary investigations:

Need to add RD Web access service + Remote Desktop web client.

Could someone please advise is this scenario possible or not?

I want to make a stress on that I need to access from browser not to a published via remote apps applications but to workstations via full RDP session.

Thanks in advance!

How to see contents stored in a Redirected Clipboard?

Hi All,

We can read the clipboard contents by using a PowerShell command i.e. GET-CLIPBOARD. However, it is limited to generate outputs for local clipboard.

In case when we allow Clipboard Redirection in Remote Desktop Connection, how to read the Clipboard contents in a Redirected Clipboard memory?

Thanks,

unable to install remote desktop services

Hello

I am unable to install remote desktop services on the server2012  (not via GUI and not by powershell)

I get the error: "one or several parent features are disabled so curent feature cannot be enabled error 0xc004000d"

But uninstalling of the features is not possible too because I get "an unexpected error occured"

The server is an VM of server2012. It was upgraded from 2008R2 which had the terminalserver and DC role installed. But before upgrading to 2012 the DC roles were transfered, the Server demoted and the terminalserver roles uninstalled. But it seems there are remains from the old installation, because

Get-WindowsFeature | ? {$_.Installed -eq $true -and $_.FeatureType -eq "feature"}

reveals

as installed. but no sub features

and I am unable to install or uninstall the features

How to change password in RDP session

$

In my situation all RDP clients are remote over the internet. their passwords expire every 60 days. How can the user change their password before it expires? CTRL ALT DEL will not work because it takes you to a password change on your local machine. Note the users have no access to a desktop only a single application is forced to run through the user profile.

Windows Server 2019 and RemoteApps - "The number of local display monitors exceeds the limit allowed by the remote computer" error

$

Hello -

I am getting a strange error when I attempt to access an application via RemoteApps. The error is "The number of local display monitors exceeds the limit allowed by the remote computer."

I have 6 monitors. The RemoteApps server has the display limit set to the default of 16. I am running Server 2019 as my desktop and the RemoteApps server is also running Server 2019. For all my Googlefu, I've not been able to find much about this specific error.

First, I'm assuming that the RemoteApps display limit is for all concurrent connections? Is this accurate? If this is the case, it would make sense that my 6 monitors put us over the 16 screen limit, as my co-workers that use this RemoteApps server all have multiple screens.

Second, can the display limit for RemoteApps be increased from 16?

Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Hi guys,

Is there an easy way to migrate local user profiles on an remote desktop server to user profile disks? I am replacing a Server 2008 R2 and want to start using UPD's instead on a Server 2012 R2.

RD Gateway manager issue

Hello,

I have just installed RDS on windows server 2019, I am trying to configure RDS gateway manager but not really getting it to work.

When I try to add gateway address (full FQDN address) I am getting error message that RD Gateway manager is unavailable.

I have a SSL certificate that is *.domain.com and my server name is FQDN remote.domain.com

I still get that the rdp connection is untrusted even though I choose the SSL certificate and I am not able to connect to the RD gateway manager externally.

RDS Gateway presents innexistant certifcate...

We are having an issues with our Win2012R2 RDS setup where the RD Gateway presents an outdated (and since renewed) cert to the end users connecting.

The cert used is not anymore referenced in the deployment (which lists the correct, new certificate)

PS C:\WINDOWS\system32> Get-RDCertificate -ConnectionBroker rd-sx-03.domain.com

...and is not even to be found in the certificate stores of the machine. I guess it is somehow cached in some obscure place I am not aware of.

In any case it is pretty confounding... Any idea how to solve this ?

RD Virtualization Host Configuration Failed : At least one of the required services is not running on the server

$

I have two nodes that I am trying to set up a virtual machine-based deployment with.

Node1 has RDCB, RDGW, RDWA, RDVH all installed properly, and seem to work as expected.

Node2 has only RDVH installed, and it is not working correctly.

From Node2, in Server Manager under Remote Desktop Services, I get the error:

The server pool does not match the RD Connection Brokers that are in it. Errors:
1. Cannot connect to any of the specified RD Connection Broker servers. Ensure at least one server is available and that the Remote Desktop Management (rdms), RD Connection Broker (tssdis), or RemoteApp and Desktop Connection (tscpubrpc) services are running.

Node1 (which hosts the RDCB) is online, and all of the three services above are running on it.

I can ping Node1 from Node2 and vice versa.

Node2 is apart of the server pool on Node1 and vice versa. I even removed them and re-added them.

I followed threads suggesting to open the RDCms database in SQL Management Studio, bring it offline and then back online, but this makes no difference (probably because RDCms was not in a recovery or pending state in the first place for me).

Uninstalling RDVH and re-installing RDVH directly onto Node2 makes no difference.

Uninstalling RDVH and re-installing RDVH through "Add RD Virtualization Host Servers" under Deployment Overview on Node1 fails with this error in Event Viewer under Microsoft-Windows-Rdms-UI/Admin :

Event ID 4119

RD Virtualization Host Configuration Failed on <server-name> With Error: At least one of the required services is not running on the server <server-name>.

Searching this event ID pretty much only brings up results about firewall blockages. I have no firewall set up, and so this is not the issue. I found absolutely no results online about not having a required service.

On Node2, I have the following services installed and running:

- Remote Desktop Configuration

- Remote Desktop Services

- Remote Desktop Services UserMode Port Redirector

- Remote Desktop Virtualization Host Agent

What service am I missing? Is it Remote Desktop Management (rdms)? How do I go about installing it? And why was it not already installed?

Both these servers have just gone though fresh OS installations, are fully updated, and have identical OS specs.

I have removed/installed/rebooted both servers countless times to try to get a proper RDVH installation on Node2.

It makes no sense as to why this wouldn't be working out of the box.

RemoteAPP after windows 10 update 1803 are slow and right mouse button is not responding (it reacts only sometimes)

Hi,

our workstations with Windows 10 pro are in this weekend updated to version 1803. For main system we use RemoteAPP aplications on Windows server 2012R2 (Windows server 2012R2 is full updated). After update on client station are RemoteAPP slower, and  right mouse button is unresponsive, or react verly long time...

It is a big problem for us.

PS: after replace mstsc.exe and mstscax.dll from older version Windows 10 is all OK. but this is not a solution.

Thanks.

Resizing User Profile Disks in Existing Server 2012 R2 RDS Deployment Question

$

Once the initial maximum size is set and the VHDXs have been created in a Server 2012 R2 RDS deployment, will attempting to increase Collection's maximum UPD size by say.. issuing a Powershell command of:

Set-RDSessionCollectionConfiguration -CollectionName MySpiffyNewCollection -MaxUserProfileDiskSizeGB 10

over-write the existing VHDXs instead of simply increasing their size? (max size is currently 5GB)

I'm not at a point where I can test this in a lab condition to find out, and I have not found this question asked (or at least not definitively answered) in this forum yet.

Using RDG with Azure NPS Extension and Remote Desktop Connection Manager Freezes

$

In my environment I have an on-premise Remote Desktop Gateway that is configured to use Azure for MFA.  The configuration for this follows the steps outlined in the following article: Integrate your Remote Desktop Gateway infrastructure using the Network Policy Server (NPS) extension and Azure AD

The issue I experience appears to be limited to the following scenario.

I use Remote Desktop Connection Manager that is configured to use the RDG.  I connect to a Windows server and successfully negotiate the second factor of authentication.  So far so good.  The problem is when performing a Log Off or Disconnect from a Windows server, the Remote Desktop Connection Manager consistently freezes and is unresponsive for approximately 30 seconds.

This problem does not appear to affect RDP sessions which use the Remote Desktop Client (therefore still using the RDG) although the experience isn't necessarily the same.

My environment consists of the following 2 servers:

  • Server 1 - Windows Server 2019 with both Remote Desktop Gateway with NPS Server Roles
  • Server 2 - Windows Server 2019 with NPS Server Role and the Azure NPS Extension installed

The version of Remote desktop Connection Manager is "RDCMan v2.7 build 1406.0" and I am connecting from a Windows 10 Device with Build 1803.

UPDATE 1:

On the Windows 10 (1803) device, when the RDCM becomes responsive again, the following errors are logged in the Remote Desktop Services eventlog...

Level	Date and Time	Source	Event ID	Task Category
Error	10/01/2020 16:16:18	Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices-ClientActiveXCore	1033	General	Component name:CheckInternetConnectionTask, :: 'Connection-to-server is alive. Server checked: https://externaladdresshere' in CheckInternetConnectionTask::ExecuteTask at 3639 err=[0x0], Error code:0x0

UPDATE 2:

I have now reproduced the issue when  connecting from a Windows 10 Build 1909 device.

Any help appreciated.  Thanks

Disconnecting RDP Session Causing Excel C++ Macro to Pause

$

Hi,

I'm kicking off an extensive Excel macro on a network machine via Remote Desktop Connection that takes roughly 50 hours to complete. The macro VB calls a DLL file to execute a chunk of code in C++ (I did not build it and am not well versed).  Running the macro in an active session works fine, but if I disconnect and return a good time later, I can tell the macro has made zero progress since when I disconnected from the session--I can tell from status bar communication in Excel.  Once I reconnect my session, the macro continues running like I'd never left and no error messages or code execution breaks messages to be found.

It gets weirder--I have 4 options of VMs to choose from, all of which have identical specs (Windows 10, 64-bit Office, 64-bit OS).  The macro will continue to run when I'm disconnected on only ONE machine. The only difference I can see on the one machine that's successfully running the macro, is that it's the least recent to have been rebooted (and therefore updated) of the lot.

I do not have local admin rights on any of the machines. Any incite would be greatly appreciated.

I'll caveat that I'm kind of a layman in tech speak; I apologize if I chose the wrong categories to post on.

Limit only 1 rdp session

Hi everybody,

I'm asking to this forum because I'm not finding anything... (or probably I'm not able to).

As you know, the limit od rdp simultaneously connections  in windows server 2012 is limited to 2.

Now I need to limit it only to one (like a windows 10 client for example).

There is a solution that avoid to install the terminal services?

thanks in advance!

I installed RDS server in windows 2012 R2. Then as business need, we renamed servername1 to servername2. In Server Manager - Remote Desktop Services,  there shows error "The following server in this deployment are not part of thee server pool"

1. servername1.domainname.com

The servers must be added to the server pool.

I tried to fix this problem by running powershell to remove servernmame1 and add servername2. but each get write error. Any help to result these are highly appreciated!

How to check RDS license host server name

Hello Team,

We have one central windows 2016 RDS license server having around 2000 licenses. There are around 10 servers in our environment is having RDS role installed, However, all of those servers are using this single central server for licensing purpose. is there any way we can check what all servers are pointing to this central license server and using the RDS licenses. It is old setup so we dont have this info when those 10 VMs were deployed and connected to central license server to use the  RDS license.

RDP issue Logonui.exe unknown module

Hi

Since several weeks I have a strange issue with a customer Citrix environment.

We deploying a golden image and running 9 servers on Windows 2008R2. The Citrix is version 6.5

Why Microsoft Forum, Citrix says its not ICA but RDP who fails and refers to Microsoft.

Almost every day the customer has issues to login to the servers.

As test we try to open each server via Remote Desktop. 1 of more servers (not all!) are failing to connect to RDP. Only console view seems to work.

In eventviewer we only see 1 Error event;

Faulting application name: LogonUI.exe, version: 6.1.7601.17514, time stamp: 0x4ce79f70
Faulting module name: unknown, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x00000000
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x000007feefada5d0
Faulting process id: 0x1b74
Faulting application start time: 0x01d5d290f179a0fc
Faulting application path: C:\Windows\system32\LogonUI.exe
Faulting module path: unknown
Report Id: 2f43d812-3e84-11ea-a213-005056bf4206

I found several posts on an issue with LogonUI but never with unknown module.

The faulting process id is always different and is not a active PID.

Could somewone point me to a suggestion?

Problems started with latest Windows Updates. Return to previous versions is not possible anymore.

Thank you

The following error occured: The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted.

This message appears only on Win 2019 Core servers but not on Win 2019 GUI, nor Win 2016 GUI, or Win 2016 Core.

I have checked the SPN and it already exists:

The error message also says:

But, I am logged on with a domain account, which means that the domain is available.
